A water immersion container is used, for example, when an electric car containing a lithium battery is on fire. The fire brigade extinguishes until the flames are gone and then hands over the vehicle to a specialized salvage company. The salvage specialist takes all precautions to carry out the salvage safely. This requires education, training and personal protective equipment. In the water immersion container, the battery pack is cooled for a long time and can discharge. The salvage specialist continues to monitor the process and is responsible for the storage and possible disposal of the battery pack and contaminated water to a recycling company.
